DFI 1 - Core Business

The first day of the Digital Fluency Intensive course was pretty full on.  Listening skills was a MUST.  It was great to  meet many new people, including the old faces.

I learnt about the 'The Manaiakalani Origins - The Development of its Pedagogy and Kaupapa.  It is amazing how all these people - Principals, Lead Teachers, Board Chairs, Researchers,  Facilitator worked together with the vision to...

  • Motivate learners to engage with the curriculum
  • Provide a model for 21st century  teaching and learning
  • Work with learners to establish an authentic audience for their learning
  • Empower learners with an evidence based-belief that their personal voice is valuable and powerful
  • Raise achievement outcomes

I also learnt that Manaiakalani's overall goal is to change learning and teaching practice in order to empower learners and their whanau and this is the reason why, I want to know and learn about Manaiakalani Learn, Create, Share.

New learning for me today was having the opportunity to delve deeper into some of the functions that Google Doc has.  I was a firm believer that 'if you never used it or needed it, then don't learn it'.  Well, I must say, that having spent 2-3 hours using Google Doc, I learnt heaps and will definitely practice at home.   I was able to put my new learning into practice and I produced a poster using Google Docs.  I was pretty confident in doing this task and I know that this will be useful to my learners in creating posters for some of their assessment work.
